Manufacturing was already in difficulty in the US, after the year long trade war between US and China. The US manufacturing sector was the last to be affected by the war, but it did suffer in the end. Although, no one could predict what was to come, with the lock-downs and the deep dive in manufacturing in March, April and May. Dallas FED manufacturing survey showed a nice jump for this month,
The latest Dallas-area manufacturing survey
- Dallas Fed June manufacturing index -6.1 vs -22.0 expected
- May manufacturing index was -49.2
- Estimates ranged from -35.0 to +20
There has been a consistent theme of outperformance in regional manufacturing surveys. It’s at the point now where market participants have to be pricing in stronger readings in the ISM and Markit surveys — both due on July 1.
