US-China Trade Deal to be Finalized in May?
According to a news report on Bloomberg, US and China could officially announce and sign their trade deal as soon as sometime in May. Chinese Vice Premier Liu He is set to visit Washington in the coming week to continue with negotiations, while unnamed sources have said that US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin could travel to Beijing by the end of April as the trade talks progress.
The nine-month trade war between two of the world’s largest economies appears to be nearing its end, even as Mnuchin has confirmed that both sides have arrived close to the final rounds of negotiations on their deal. Discussions are still underway about what tariffs could continue and what could be removed, as well as how to enforce the terms of the trade deal once it is finalized.
