Radioshack, the legendary retailer of tech items and specialized hardware, will adapt its long-time business to join the crypto ecosystem, by launching its own DeFi protocol and NFT Collection. The idea is to “bridge the gap” and bring cryptocurrency to the mainstream.

The trending electronics product supplier back in the ’70s and ’80s has now been revived, after being acquired by its new investors, Alex Mehr and Tai Lopez. Collaborating with Atlas Universal Store of Value (USV), Radioshack plans to establish a decentralized exchange, similar to SushiSwap or UniSwap, which lets users trade cryptocurrencies via smart contracts processed on the Ethereum blockchain. This new DeFi protocol will be powered by a new DeFi token, RADIO. This decentralized exchange (DEX) will also cater to existing digital currencies, such as Ethereum, Bitcoin, Solana and Atlas USV’s own USV token.

Aside from the RadioShack DeFi, Radioshack is also planning to release its own collection of NFTs. The company will team up with Modell’s Sporting Goods, the Franklin Mint and others, to launch their own digital collectibles, which will be available on the Opensea NFT marketplace

Big brands around the globe, from big payment companies to giant sportswear enterprises, have been jumping to join the crypto hype. It is easier to attract mainstream adoption with brands, since they are established and popular. Radioshack may have an edge when it comes to popularity and exposure, which is an essential factor in building up DeFi technology.
