Pedro Sánchez will reflect on whether to resign from the Presidency of Spain following a complaint against his wife.

A court in Madrid has opened an investigation against Begoña Gómez for alleged crimes of influence peddling and corruption in business following a complaint by the union Manos Limpias.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has decided to suspend his public agenda for a few days to reflect on whether to resign from the head of government following the complaint against his wife, Begoña Gómez, for alleged corruption. He will communicate his decision on April 29.

Sánchez announced this in a letter to the public that he made public through the social network X after a court in Madrid opened an investigation against Gómez for alleged crimes of influence peddling and corruption in business following a complaint by the Manos Limpias union.

In his letter, the head of government laments the “unprecedented” attack on his wife and wonders if it is worth continuing to endure this situation.

He answers this question by stating that he does not know and, therefore, says he needs to “stop and reflect” with his wife, whom he admits to being “deeply in love” with.

“I urgently need to answer the question of whether it is worth it, despite the mud in which the right and the far-right seek to turn politics. If I should continue to lead the government or resign from this high honor,” adds Sánchez.

The complaint against the wife of the Prime Minister, based on press reports, alleges that, leveraging her position, she would have recommended or endorsed businessmen who bid for public contracts.
