China Wants US to Show Sincerity in Trade Negotiations

Even after the most recent rounds of tariff hikes and the US ordering a ban on Huawei, China is keen on resolving issues between the two countries through a process of dialogue and consultation. These remarks were made by Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lu Kang during a daily news briefing.

Kang also insists that to continue trade discussions, US must also show some sincerity towards China and towards resolving any differences the two sides may have. Kang’s comments offer a more conciliatory tone after the Chinese media took a patriotic and stern stance earlier today regarding the recent escalation of trade concerns.

The Chinese Yuan has slid lower to a near five-month low, but according to news reports, the government could intervene if the Yuan weakens below 7 against the US dollar. As a next step, both countries are due to meet in China to resume their trade talks.
