Trump Open to Discussing Huawei if China Resumes Trade Talks

Despite escalating trade tensions between US and China, Trump remarked on Thursday that he would be open to include Huawei in the discussion

Trump continues to maintain optimism over the US and China coming together to negotiate a trade deal. Despite escalating tensions and no word on when then next round of talks will be held, Trump remarked on Thursday that he would be open to include Huawei in the discussions when they commence again.

He continues to express caution against the company, however, stating, “You look at what they’ve done from a security standpoint, from a military standpoint, it’s very dangerous.” Supporting comments were also made by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who alleged that Huawei’s CEO Ren Zhengfei has lied about the company’s ties to the Chinese government.

Pompeo also went on to state in an interview on Thursday that he remains hopeful that more companies will stop working with Huawei as the State Department tries to raise awareness about the security risks of using Huawei’s technology.

Meanwhile, the trade war has started taking a toll on the US markets, with SPX falling by more than 2% during close on Thursday on account of troubles with Huawei.
