Google Warns that Huawei Ban Could Compromise National Security in the Long Run

Search engine giant Google has warned that if the US continues with its ban on Huawei, it could put national security at risk. Google has expressed concern that if it is unable to offer updates to Android OS running on Huawei smartphones, the Chinese company could develop its own version of the OS, leaving Android OS more susceptible to hacking.

Google also remarked that the US government’s decision to impose sanctions on China and on Huawei could generate losses in the short term, but in the long-term could cause more harm to itself. Such a move would force companies like Huawei to turn self-reliant and develop more technologies in-house, increasing risks for American businesses.

The US had added Huawei to a trade blacklist in May, as a result of which the Chinese firm and its affiliates could no longer receive technology from US businesses without special approvals from the government.
