US Ban Effect: Huawei Calls Off New Laptop Launch
Huawei has announced its decision to call off the launch of a new laptop over the US government’s decision to add the Chinese company to a trade blacklist. As a result of the US ban, Huawei cannot undertake business with American suppliers without special government approvals.
This is the first time Huawei has cancelled a product launch after the US decision to add it to the Entity List. There is no clarification on whether the upcoming launch of the laptop has been postponed to a later date or cancelled completely, as it depends on how long the US plans to keep it in the Entity List.
Although Huawei is traditionally focused on selling telecom equipment, the company ventured into consumer electronics in 2018, offering a range of smartphones, tablets and wearable devices. So far, the company has not experienced any disruption in existing business as it tries to mitigate the effect of the ban through stockpiling components and looking to create an alternate OS for its devices.
