Tainted cheese and other ingredients supplied by Rizo Lopez Foods Inc., which is linked to the ongoing Listeria monocytogenes outbreak, are causing the recall of additional products in the United States, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration or FDA. Chicken Street Taco Kits and MEXICAN STYLE STREET CORN BITE are the latest in the recall list.
San Bernardino, California-based Stater Bros. Markets is recalling 768 units of CHICKEN STREET TACO, while Modesto, California-based The Save Mart Companies has recalled all lot and date codes of Chicken Street Taco Kits. Further, Glendale, California-based The Perfect Bite Co. is recalling its MEXICAN STYLE STREET CORN BITE.
All the affected products have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes as they all contain cheese or diary ingredients supplied by Rizo-Lopez.
The multi-year, multistate outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes infections are likely linked to queso fresco and cotija cheeses manufactured by Modesto, California -based Rizo Lopez, as per the CDC and FDA information.
Cheese supplier Rizo-Lopez recently had called back its products after they were linked to the ongoing Listeria outbreak.
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
Healthy individuals may suffer short term symptoms like high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. But the same organism can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
In the latest recalls, Stater Bros. Markets’ Chicken Street Taco Kits were available for purchase in California and have the UPC 0102864343013992 with sell thru dates up to and including February 10.
Save Mart Companies’ Chicken Street Taco Kits are packaged in a plastic container having a net weight of 17 ounces with UPC beginning from 278230 followed by other digits. They include a cup of crema sauce containing cotija cheese produced by RLF. They were sold in Save Mart, Lucky, and Lucky California store service delis.
Fresh Creative Foods, a division of Reser’s Fine Foods, sold these kits to The Save Mart Companies and the kits were packaged by in-store delis at Save Mart, Lucky, and Lucky California stores. The affected products were also sold at Save Mart, Lucky, and Lucky California stores in California and Nevada.
The Perfect Bite Co’s Mexican Style Street corn bite come in a sealed tray in a box marked with Lot # 223231 and Best By 02/21/2025. They were distributed in Costco warehouses in California and Hawaii.
So far, for all the impacted products, no reports of illnesses have been reported.
The agency is urging customers who have purchased the called back products to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
As a consequence of the recall initiated by Rizo-Lopez, Fresh Express last week recalled two salad kits with condiment packs that contain the recalled cheese.
Earlier, Fresh Creative Foods had called back certain cremas, everything sauces, cilantro cotija dressing, poblano Caesar dressing, cilantro dressing and one taco kit, all made with a cheese ingredient supplied by Rizo Lopez. Further, Simply Fresh LLC. recalled its Rojo’s Black Bean 6 Layer Dip 2-20oz Club Pack, made with Rizo Lopez’s recalled cotija cheese, and sold only at Costco.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service or FSIS last week issued a public health alert against SK Food Group’s ready-to-eat or RTE poultry burrito products that contains recalled dairy products from Rizo-Lopez.
