Miami, Florida-based Don Novo & Son is recalling around 9,330 pounds of ready-to-eat or RTE meat products, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service or FSIS.
The affected RTE meat products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
The recall involves 1-lb. shrink-wrapped packages of “Don Novo CHORIZO FULLY COOKED”, as well as “Don Novo COSTILLAS AHUMADAS SMOKED PORK RIBS”.
Further, the company called back 1.5-lb. shrink-wrapped packages of “Don Novo LOMO AHUMADO SMOKED PORK LOIN”; 5.4-lb. to 5.5-lb. shrink-wrapped packages of “Don Novo MORTADELLA CUBANA CUBAN BRAND MORTADELA”, and 5.4-lb. to 5.5-lb. shrink-wrapped packages containing “Don Novo MORTADELLA CUBANA CUBAN BRAND MORTADELA.
All the impacted products come with an expiry date of 3/30/2024.
All these products were produced on December 21 and bear the establishment number “EST. 34257” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped to retail locations in Florida.
The recall was initiated when FSIS was notified that a sample collected by a state public health partner tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, persons with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns.
Symptoms like fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions can sometimes precede diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms.
So far, the company has not received any report of adverse reactions due to consumption of these impacted products.
The agency is concerned that these recalled products might be in retailers’ and consumers’ refrigerators or freezers, and urged them to return to the place of purchase.
In similar recalls, MG Foods recalled, earlier this week, a Ham & Cotija Torta Sandwich on Telera Roll that contains Rizo-Lopez Foods Inc.’s tainted cotija cheese, citing Listeria monocytogenes concerns, amid the ongoing Listeria outbreak.
Sprouts Farmers Market, along with Rizo-Lopez and Fresh Creations Foods, recalled all Chicken Street Taco Meal Kit Units for the same reason.
