The largest of all the investments announced by the automotive industry for Brazil was revealed on Wednesday. Stellantis’ new plan will add R$ 30 billion (6B USD) between 2025 and 2030 and will be mostly directed towards the production of hybrid cars powered by ethanol. The first of them will start being produced and sold in the second half of this year.
Argentina will also receive investments from Stellantis. Apparently, the company’s management did not intend to disclose the amount on Wednesday during the interview they granted in Brasília shortly after meeting with the government.
However, faced with journalists’ insistence on knowing the level of interest in maintaining activities in the neighboring country, Stellantis’ president for Latin America, Emanuele Cappellano, revealed that Argentina will also receive an investment equivalent to R$ 2 billion soon.
In charge of the group since its creation, Portuguese executive Carlos Tavares, one of the executives who has stood out in the global automotive industry scenario, personally came to inform President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Vice President Geraldo Alckmin of the news.
Both during the meeting with the government and later, in the conversation with journalists, Tavares praised the Mover program, which offers federal tax incentives to the automotive industry in exchange for commitments to research, innovation, and emissions reduction. “It’s a smart program,” emphasized the executive.
“Latin America is, for us, a stable region today,” Tavares highlighted, referring to the reasons that led the company to announce the robust investment. The last investment cycle, which included programs from the brands that make up Stellantis in the country, totaled R$ 16 billion between 2018 and 2025.
