Trump Attempts to Delay Hush Money Case and $460 Lawsuit Payment

Donald Trump is trying to avoid losing major assets as he posted a bond of $175 million to avoid paying immediately for the $460 million lawsuit from the state of New York.

That is not his only attempt at delay, as he is also trying to delay his April 15th hush money trial. That attempt fell through and was soundly denied by the New York appeals court judge on Monday.

This means that the former United States President will be dealing with the major trial while handling a looming $460 million fine. On top of all that, Trump is trying to win back favor with the Republican party and American voters during an election year. It is assumed that he will be the Republican candidate for the presidency who will run up against sitting President Joe Biden.

With all of his legal and financial troubles though. Trump may have trouble running a campaign very efficiently. He may rely on campaign donations more than ever while having very little access to his own funds. Most of them will likely be tied up in courts until the fines are fully paid and the cases settled. If he tries to use his funds to finance a presidential campaign, he could find himself embroiled in further legal battles as a result.

The $175 Million Bond Problem

Many legal experts see Trump’s use of the bond as a delay tactic that will not work out. Currently, Trump has to prove his ability to pay the bond before it can be considered valid. With his financial troubles, that may prove difficult.

Trump and his legal team were given 10 days to justify filing for  the bond. As a delay tactic, it is working, but it may not pan out for him like he hopes.

Trump is faced with a hush money trial as well, and it is only one of four trials that is set to move forward this year or early in 2025. If even one of these goes forward, it would mark a historic precedent of the first time a former US President is ever involved in a criminal trial.
