Milei dismisses his foreign minister for voting against the Cuba blockade.
Diplomatic sources suggested that the decision was driven by the need to regain lost support in the UN Decolonization Committee.

Argentine President Javier Milei dismissed Foreign Minister Diana Mondino on Wednesday after the country voted at the United Nations in favor of lifting the embargo on Cuba.
Diplomatic sources suggested that the decision was driven by the need to regain lost support in the UN Decolonization Committee for the Falklands/Malvinas sovereignty claim.
Presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni announced on the social network X that Argentina’s current ambassador to the United States, Gerardo Werthein, would be the new foreign minister.
Mondino was among the first cabinet members appointed by Milei after his presidential victory and played a key role in strengthening diplomatic ties with countries like Brazil and China.
According to Foreign Ministry sources, Milei learned of the pro-Cuba embargo vote during lunch when Werthein called him from the United States.
Other controversies surrounding Mondino included Milei’s refusal to attend a meeting with Arab ambassadors and her suggestion that Argentina might rejoin the BRICS, a statement she later had to retract.
Mondino’s departure had been anticipated for months, with formal offers even extended to International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) head Rafael Grossi, who ultimately declined the position
