EU-Britain Free Trade Deal Likely After Brexit: Reuters Poll
According to a recent Reuters poll, Britain is widely expected to finalize a free trade agreement with the EU after Brexit, which could help strengthen the Pound in 2020. Economists polled were nearly unanimous in their optimistic outlook about a free trade deal between the EU and Britain post-Brexit.
The poll also indicates a high likelihood of PM Johnson and his Conservatives coming back to power after the upcoming general elections on December 12. This victory will help him garner adequate support to successfully pass the Brexit Bill he reached with the EU through UK’s parliament and move towards achieving Brexit before the deadline of January 31, 2020.
In the latest poll, the median probability of a no-deal Brexit scenario has dropped to 15% from 20% in the previous poll from last month – the lowest level since May when the EU had granted the previous extension on the Brexit deadline. The poll also indicates the highest likelihood for a free trade deal between Britain and EU.
