YouGov Predicts Majority for Conservatives, but Possibility of Hung Parliament High
According to the most recent YouGov poll, UK PM Boris Johnson is all set for victory at the upcoming general elections and his party could also garner more seats in the Parliament this time around. The latest estimates peg Conservatives’ tally at 339 seats, higher than the 317 the party won at the previous general elections.
Meanwhile, the main opposition Labour Party could win 231 seats, lower than the 262 seats it had won in the previous elections in 2017. However, YouGov has also cautioned that its model reveals no clear overall majority for either party, increasing the possibility of a hung parliament.
In the event of a hung parliament, political tensions and the uncertainty around Brexit are sure to reign in British markets all over again. A hung parliament also puts into question the likelihood of Britain leaving the EU on January 31, 2020 – the latest deadline for Brexit.
