US ISM Manufacturing Keeps Surging to the Highest Levels Since 1983

Manufacturing is surging everywhere in the world. Yesterday we saw European manufacturing figures which showed some record levels, especially Germany and the Netherlands. Other countries were close to record highs as well.
US ISM manufacturing has been surging too, with the indicators jumping from 60.8 points in February which was already really high, to 64.7 points in March. The medical and the renewable energy sectors should be at the forefront of this surge in manufacturing activity.
US ISM Manufacturing Survey for March 2021:
- March ISM manufacturing 64.7 points vs 61.5 expected
- Highest reading since 1983
- February stood at 60.8 points
- Prices paid 85.6 points vs 83.5 points expected (86.0 prior)
- New orders 68.0 points vs 64.8 prior — highest since 2004
- Employment 59.6 points vs 54.4 in February
This is a great report but maybe not as big of a surprise as it seems. Every regional survey was strong. At the same time, you can’t help but cheer record highs. Manufacturing is sizzling. The market reaction has been modest but this adds some upside risks to tomorrow’s non-farm payrolls report. EUR/USD returned back down from the highs of 1.1760s. We’re short on this pair, so let’s hope that this report will send this pair lower.
