Investing in Bitcoin a few years ago proved to be a wise decision for the executive chairman and co-founder of MicroStrategy Michael Saylor.
He has earned a reported $400 million from his 2020 investment in the cryptocurrency token. He sold 5,000 shares of his company stock from January of this year until this week, and stock growth is a direct result of the company investing so heavily in Bitcoin.
MicroStrategy is listed as the biggest Bitcoin investor and has been for a while now. When other investors are selling off, MicroStrategy is buying, and Bitcoin has had a spectacular last 12 months. The coin grew exponentially around the end of last year and continued to grow in early 2024.
Bitcoin’s growth has started to slow down considerably in the past month or so, but anyone investing in late 2023 would be making a lot of profit selling at this point.
MicroStrategy has profited in a big way from Bitcoin, growing partly off of their buying and selling of the coin at key points in the token’s life cycle.
How Has MicroStrategy’s Stock Performed?
MicroStrategy (MSTR) stock has doubled in 2024. The price is currently around $1,280. Back in 2014, the company’s stock was worth $160 a share. Some say that Saylor is selling off shares while they peak and that the company may be headed for trouble soon. Massive selloffs like this worry shareholders who are always concerned that there is trouble around the corner.
But Saylor says that exercising this option and selling will let him purchase more Bitcoin, which he is eager to do as he believes it still has room for incredible growth.
MicroStrategy is seen as a buyer’s stock right now, poised to go much higher according to multiple analysts. The stock price is currently up 0.7% today after moving past a sharp dip early this morning.
