Michael Saylor Claims His Strategy Can Snap Up $100M in Bitcoin in an Hour

Michael Saylor, executive chairman of Strategy, says his company can plough new money into Bitcoin a whole lot faster...

Quick overview

  • Michael Saylor claims Strategy can invest in Bitcoin a thousand times faster than traditional investments.
  • He suggests that corporate Bitcoin treasuries can convert capital into Bitcoin in under an hour.
  • Hints of another significant purchase by Strategy could influence Bitcoin's price positively.
  • Despite criticism, Saylor believes in Bitcoin's long-term potential and its advantages over slower investment sectors.

Michael Saylor, executive chairman of Strategy, says his company can plough new money into Bitcoin a whole lot faster than any old traditional investment – “a thousand times faster than anything else you’ve ever seen” basically. He made the comment on the Market Disrupters podcast, and it comes at a time when people are speculating that Strategy is getting ready to make another big purchase.

Saylor went on to say that corporate Bitcoin treasuries are moving on a whole different timeline where capital gets converted into Bitcoin almost instantly – “in an hour” he said. Just the other day he made a comment on Twitter that suggested Strategy might be about to make its next big buy. Obviously he’s still got a lot of faith in Bitcoin, even with all the recent ups and downs.

According to CoinMarketCap, Bitcoin is currently trading at just over $110,370, which is down a bit from where it was last week but still up a whole lot year-to-date. If Strategy makes a big purchase now, as it has in the past, it could help push the price up again.

Key highlights from Saylor’s comments include

  • Strategy can get capital into Bitcoin in under an hour.
  • Saylor reckons Bitcoin “cycles” 1,000 times faster than real estate or tech, whatever that means.
  • There are hints that another big buy is on the way.

Strategy Still Leading the Charge in Corporate Bitcoin

With 640,250 BTC under its belt as of October 13, Strategy is still the top corporate Bitcoin holder globally – that’s around 2.5% of the total supply. The way Strategy has just gone out and bought up loads of Bitcoin has set the bar high for other institutions when it comes to investing in digital assets.

Saylor made a point of contrasting Bitcoin’s speed of use with the really slow and capital-intensive sectors like real estate, oil and gas, and tech – these ones take years to deliver a return. Then there’s Bitcoin, which Saylor says offers a “real-time compounding effect” – basically, investors can see how it’s doing in hours rather than months.

Since October 2020, Strategy has gone on a tear buying up loads of Bitcoin, starting with a 20,000 BTC purchase. Each time it’s made a big buy it’s further reinforced its position as a real pioneer when it comes to corporate investment in digital assets – and that’s often triggered a bit of short-term optimism in the market.

Critics Don’t Get It – But Saylor’s Not Worried

Despite all its success, critics have been saying that Strategy is a bit too exposed to Bitcoin and that the risks of shareholder dilution are a bit bigger than they like. Saylor, however, reckons that these critics are just out of touch – they just don’t get Bitcoin’s long-term potential.

“Equity investors value the company on the basis of the Bitcoin yield and appreciation per share”, he says, and it’s true that Strategy’s business model is all about linking shareholder performance to how well Bitcoin does over the long-term.

Saylor’s comments show just how convinced he is that Bitcoin is the best performing treasury reserve asset out there – and that Strategy’s speed and agility gives it a real edge. If Strategy does make another big buy, it could once again help push the price of Bitcoin up heading into the end of October.
