President of Mexico stated, “I don’t understand how the Argentines voted for someone who despises the people”

Mexican President Andrés López Obrador responded on Thursday to the statements made by Javier Milei, who called him "ignorant".

The Mexican president responded in this way to the libertarian President of Argentina, who had called him “ignorant.” Furthermore, he supported Petro’s decision to expel diplomats from our country in response to Milei’s attacks.

Mexican President Andrés López Obrador responded on Thursday to the statements made by Javier Milei, who called him “ignorant,” and expressed support for his Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro, who decided to expel Argentine diplomats from his country for comments against him that he considered “denigrating.”

“Milei claimed that I am ‘ignorant’ because I called him a ‘conservative fascist.’ He is correct,” López Obrador wrote on the social media platform X. “I still do not understand how the Argentines, being so intelligent, voted for someone who is not accurate, who despises the people, and who dared to accuse his countryman Francisco of being a ‘communist’ and ‘representative of the Evil One on earth,’ when he is the most Christian Pope and defender of the poor that I have known or heard of,” he added.

In an interview with CNN, where he was asked about his relationship with the Mexican president, who had been critical, Milei responded: “It’s a compliment that an ignorant like López Obrador speaks ill of me, it elevates me.”

In the interview, which will air on Sunday and of which some excerpts were known, Milei also criticized Petro, whom he described as a “murderous communist who is sinking Colombia.” In response, the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expelled Argentine diplomats in the country after condemning Milei’s statements.

“The expressions of the Argentine president have deteriorated the trust of our nation, in addition to offending the dignity of President Petro, who was democratically elected,” stressed the Colombian Foreign Ministry.

“The Government of Colombia orders the expulsion of diplomats from the Embassy of Argentina in Colombia. The scope of this decision will be communicated to the Argentine Embassy through institutional diplomatic channels,” the statement concluded.

In his message on Thursday, López Obrador wrote: “I embrace Gustavo Petro.” And the Grupo de Puebla, a forum that brings together left-wing political leaders from Latin America and Spain, also expressed its support for the Colombian president and spoke of a “diplomatic crisis.”

“The statements of President Milei against President Petro are an affront to the region. International relations require more responsibility, and the harvest of the Argentine president’s actions close to his 100 days in office is a diplomatic crisis,” it noted on X.
