The United States urges Ecuador to work with Mexico to find a solution following their diplomatic dispute.

The US government condemned the forced entry into the Mexican Embassy in Ecuador.

The United States has urged Ecuador to work with Mexico to find a solution to the diplomatic dispute between the two countries, said the White House on Tuesday, after Ecuadorian police and soldiers forcibly entered the Mexican embassy on Friday to arrest former vice president Jorge Glas.
“We condemn this violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, including the use of force against embassy officials,” said US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.
Earlier today, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador expressed his rejection of the attitude of some countries towards the aggression suffered by the Mexican embassy in Ecuador, and described the positions of the United States and Canada as ambiguous.
“There were very ambiguous pronouncements regarding this affront in the case of the United States and Canada; we are economic and trade partners, we are neighbors, and their position was very undefined. So far, their position has been very undefined,” he said from the National Palace.
“It went to the extreme in the case of Canada, saying it was an alleged violation of international law. They used a word: apparent. We do not allow that, we do not accept it. In the case of the United States, there was a document, a bulletin from the State Department, condemning the intrusion, assault, invasion of our embassy, and talking about seeking reconciliation, but without speaking out against this authoritarian act,” commented the president in his morning press conference on Tuesday.
