Nvidia surpassed Microsoft in market valuation, reclaiming its position as the world’s most valuable publicly traded company. The artificial intelligence chipmaker’s stock increased roughly 3% on Tuesday to $141.40.

The stock has risen nearly 24% over the past month as Nvidia’s growth has continued despite concerns about tariffs and export controls. The company’s market valuation is $3.45 trillion. Microsoft’s market capitalization was $3.44 trillion at the end of Tuesday.

Nvidia announced last week that its fiscal first quarter sales totaled $44.06 billion, translating into adjusted earnings per share of 96 cents.

That was an amazing growth rate of 69 percent over the same period last year for a company the size of Nvidia. Companies like OpenAI use Nvidia’s AI chips to create software like ChatGPT, which has propelled the company’s growth.

Nvidia’s AI accelerators have been bought in bulk by companies like Microsoft, Meta, Google, Amazon, Oracle, and xAI to construct ever-larger computer clusters for sophisticated AI work.

Nvidia has seen tremendous growth in recent years as scientists and researchers discovered that the same chip designs that could produce computer graphics were perfect for the type of parallel processing required for artificial intelligence, originally established in 1993 to manufacture chips for 3D gaming.
