Nvidia Unveils Upgraded Blackwell-Based AI Chip for China
Nvidia is developing a new AI chip for China that is expected to be more powerful than the current H20 model it is allowed to sell there.
Quick overview
- Nvidia is developing a new AI chip for China, expected to surpass the current H20 model, based on the Blackwell architecture.
- The new chip, potentially named B30A, features a single-die design and aims to deliver half the processing power of Nvidia's flagship accelerator card.
- Regulatory approval for the chip remains uncertain due to U.S. concerns about technology access for China.
- Nvidia plans to send samples of the new chip to Chinese customers for testing as early as next month.
Nvidia is developing a new AI chip for China that is expected to be more powerful than the current H20 model it is allowed to sell there. This new chip will be based on Nvidia’s latest Blackwell architecture. Recently, President Donald Trump approved the sale of more advanced Nvidia chips to China.

However, sources indicate that Washington’s ongoing concerns about giving China excessive access to U.S. AI technology make regulatory approval uncertain. The new chip, which may be called the B30A, is designed with a single-die setup and is projected to deliver half the raw processing power of Nvidia’s flagship accelerator card, which utilizes a more complex dual-die design.
All major components of an integrated circuit are fabricated on a single, continuous piece of silicon, instead of being divided among multiple dies, in a single-die design.
Based on the company’s older Hopper architecture, the new chip will also include high-bandwidth memory and Nvidia’s NVLink technology for fast data transfer between processors.
The sources, who requested anonymity and are not authorized to speak publicly, said that while the chip’s specifications are still being finalized, Nvidia hopes to send samples to Chinese customers for testing as early as next month. Nvidia stated, “We assess a range of products for our roadmap, so that we can be ready to compete to the extent that governments permit.” “Everything we provide is created exclusively for advantageous commercial use and has the full approval of the relevant authorities,” the company added.
