S&P Dow Jones Indices, the firm behind the iconic S&P 500, has launched the S&P Digital Markets 50 — a new benchmark that combines cryptocurrencies and crypto-related stocks to reflect the growing integration of digital assets into traditional finance.

The index includes 15 cryptocurrencies and 35 U.S.-listed companies connected to the digital asset ecosystem, spanning financial and tech sectors. Each component will be capped at a maximum weighting of 5% to prevent overconcentration.

According to the company, the index aims to provide a diversified snapshot of the crypto market’s performance by bridging on-chain and equity-based exposure. Eligible cryptocurrencies must have a market capitalization above $300 million, while listed firms must be valued at over $100 million.

BTC/USD

While S&P has not yet published the full list of constituents, industry sources confirmed the inclusion of Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), and Binance Coin (BNB), along with stocks such as Coinbase (COIN) and MicroStrategy (MSTR).

The move marks another step toward the fusion of traditional and digital finance, offering institutional investors a credible reference point for crypto exposure. “Digital assets have evolved from a niche market to an established segment of the financial system,” said an S&P Dow Jones product director.

Although the S&P Digital Markets 50 is not directly investable, S&P is reportedly working on a tokenized version of the index that would allow investors to gain direct exposure — potentially launching by late 2025.
