Amazon Web Services, reported that its services had recovered following a widespread disruption on Monday that caused service degradation for a variety of clients, including financial platforms, government organizations, and AI firms.

Amazon employees are not too happy

AWS reported on its health dashboard that a digital directory for a major database service had malfunctioned, which probably led to cascading failures when software that depended on the popular data trove couldn’t access the data.

The issue, which affected the company’s operations on the US East Coast—AWS’s largest cluster of data centers—has since been resolved. During the recovery, some users may experience increased error rates or slower responses, according to Amazon.

Businesses affected by the AWS problem reported that their services had mostly recovered as well. Services had resumed, according to financial platform Robinhood, while Coinbase reported that it was keeping an eye on the fix’s effects. The outage that caused their websites to malfunction has been fixed, according to British tax authorities HMRC and artificial intelligence company Perplexity. Downdetector’s statistics also show a decrease in user complaints for Amazon’s own services, such as Alexa and the Ring home security system.

AWS experienced yet another significant outage in December 2021, affecting everything from robot vacuums and Adele ticket sales to Netflix videos and Disney theme parks.

Amazon claimed that a “large number” of its systems displayed unexpectedly odd behavior due to an automated computer program intended to increase the dependability of its network. Users were eventually unable to access some of AWS’s services as a result of the resulting spike in activity on its networks
