Apple has gone and shifted production of it’s Vision Pro headset to Vietnam now, which is another big step in the company’s ongoing efforts to stop relying so much on Chinese manufacturing. The new model, with an M5 processor and a redesigned headband, is scheduled to drop this wednesday for a whopping $3,499.
The original Vision Pro was made in China back when it came out in February 2024 with a M2 chip, and yes, it’s still a bit of a niche product, but relocating the production to Vietnam shows that Apple is serious about spreading out its supply lines, given all the craziness going on in the world and the uncertainty around tariffs.
Vietnam is now one of the key places where Apple makes things, along with India, Thailand and Malaysia, which are all part of Apple’s growing global team. However even though they’re slowly moving away from China, iPhone production is still very centered there, where they have all those old supplier partners they’re still relying on.
Smart Home Devices join the Vietnam expansion train
But the Vision Pro isn’t the only thing being made in Vietnam – Apple are also using the country to build some of their smart home products now too. Word is they’re working on stuff like a smart display, home security camera and a tabletop robot, all along with the chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD.

Apple’s putting the final touches on these products in Vietnam, which shows that they think the country is getting to a good level in terms of tech and logistics. This isn’t the first time – we’ve already seen Apple move some of it’s Airpods, iPad, Homepods and Apple watch production over to Vietnam.
Meanwhile they are also boosting iPhone production in India, partly to get more phones to americans and avoid those tariffs that were introduced by trump. In the US, Apple are teaming up with Corning to make iPhone and Apple watch glass, while they are keeping the Mac Pro in Texas.
Foldable iPad and iPhone get delayed – again
But just as Apple are spreading their wings a bit, their plans to bring out a foldable iPad and iPhone are hitting another road block. The foldable iPad, which was supposed to come out in 2028 is now looking like it won’t be till 2029, or possibly later – Apple’s engineers are still trying to sort out the hinge weight and display durability issue. The thing is supposed to have an 18 inch screen from Samsung and cost around $3,000.
The foldable iPhone is also getting a delay, now looking like it will be 2027 – which is slower than some of the other companies out there, but the idea is that Apple is being careful to make sure it gets it right. That’s just the way they do things, after all.
