Indonesian retail investors can now access American stocks much more easily. Before this, high fees and regulatory hurdles made it tough for them to invest in foreign markets. The country’s retail investor count jumped to 17 million in 2025. That number shows more Indonesians are learning about finance and actively participating in investing.

Valbury’s capitalizing on that momentum by making US stocks more accessible to a wider audience.

The service lets Valbury clients trade shares of major US companies for as little as $1 while staying compliant with Indonesian regulatory requirements. That lowers the barrier significantly for local investors wanting to diversify into the world’s largest capital market.

Caroline Haryono, CMO at PT Valbury Asia Futures, said the US stock market attracts Indonesian investors but they’ve often needed multiple accounts across different platforms to access both domestic and international assets. With this launch, Valbury clients can consolidate everything on one platform, cutting fragmentation and improving user experience.

Valbury uses Alpaca’s Broker API to power its US stock trading service. That includes Alpaca’s OmniSub technology, a sub-accounting ledger model designed to streamline back office operations. OmniSub helps Valbury maintain compliance with Indonesian regulations while simplifying complex bookkeeping like position management, reconciliation, corporate actions, and trade matching.

Yoshi Yokokawa, Co-Founder and CEO of Alpaca, said they’re excited to support Valbury as it brings global investing opportunities to Indonesian investors. With the Broker API and OmniSub technology, brokers can deliver faster access to the world’s largest capital markets.

The partnership addresses a major pain point for Indonesian investors. Trading US stocks typically required opening accounts with international brokers, dealing with currency conversion fees, and navigating foreign regulatory frameworks. Valbury’s integrated approach removes those friction points.

Fractional share trading at $1 minimum opens US equities to retail investors who couldn’t previously afford full shares of expensive stocks. If someone wants exposure to a company whose shares trade at $500 each, they can now buy a fractional piece rather than needing the full $500 upfront. For Alpaca, the partnership helps expand its footprint in Southeast Asia, where retail investing has been growing rapidly. The company’s infrastructure-as-a-service model allows brokers to launch their platforms quickly without having to build all the backend systems themselves.
