Argentine President Javier Milei will travel to Oslo to accompany Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado as she receives the Nobel Peace Prize, awarded for her democratic struggle against Nicolás Maduro’s regime.

Milei is set to fly to Oslo on Monday night to attend the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony. The president will join Machado—honored for her fight “in favor of the democratic rights of the Venezuelan people”—as confirmed by Ámbito.

Milei confirmed his attendance over the weekend after receiving a personal invitation from Machado, founder of the center-right movement Vente Venezuela.

When the award was announced, Milei congratulated Machado on social media: “My congratulations for this well-deserved recognition for your enormous and brave fight for FREEDOM and democracy. Thank you for inspiring the world in your struggle against Venezuela’s narco-dictatorship,” he wrote.

Both the Argentine president and Machado’s party, Vente Venezuela, confirmed Milei’s presence in the official delegation.

Agenda and return for extraordinary sessions

The trip will be brief, with Milei scheduled to return on Friday, December 12. His short stay in the Nordic country is due to the start of extraordinary legislative sessions in Congress on Wednesday, December 10.

The sessions will tackle key government priorities, including the 2026 budget and a major reform package covering labor, tax, and pension issues.

Recognition of a democratic struggle

María Corina Machado was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in October for her “tireless work” and her efforts to achieve a “just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy” in Venezuela.

The Vente Venezuela leader has stated that she currently lives “in hiding within her country” due to ongoing threats from the government of Nicolás Maduro and Diosdado Cabello.
