Catch Them Young: Teens Interested in Investing in Cryptocurrencies
The popularity of cryptocurrencies as investment continues to grow through the year and has caught the attention of the younger generations
The popularity of cryptocurrencies as investment continues to grow through the year and has caught the attention of the younger generations as well. According to a recent survey by Junior Achievement and RSM US, 25% of North American teenagers would like to invest in cryptocurrencies if they had access to funds, a higher number than the 24% who would invest in real estate.
The largest share of respondents still consider investing in stocks to be the most promising avenue; however, what is interesting is that 37% of teens indicated that they would refrain from investing their hypothetical funds at all. The survey was conducted around mid of July, and showed a high level of awareness among teens about the Gamestop surge, considering it to be a great way to build up capital.
40% of the teens that participated in the survey feel that the stock market is an profitable investment in the long-term, although 20% find stocks to be too risky. The objective of the survey was to assure potential investors of tomorrow that stock markets can be one of the best sources for investing in and to erase apprehensions they may have after what happened with Gamestop’s stock earlier this year.
A majority of teens (43%) rely on social media to learn more about the stock market, followed by 30% who follow websites and 29% who learn about stocks from school. The survey’s findings align with the overall mood among millennial investors worldwide who are interested in investing their money to grow their capital, especially ever since the pandemic struck and raised uncertainties about their jobs and wages.
