The Shiba Inu team has frozen 4.6 million BONE tokens after a security breach related to the Shibarium bridge. This came after blockchain security firm PeckShield detected suspicious activity related to validator key compromise.
Lead developer Kaal Dhairya confirmed that the attackers did a flash loan exploit, bought millions of BONE and tried to take control of the validator. Since the stolen tokens were delegated to Validator 1, staking restrictions prevented immediate withdrawals, giving the team time to act.
To contain the attack:
- Paused staking functions
- Moved stake manager funds to a multisig-protected hardware wallet
- Started auditing validator key integrity with external partners
Hexens, Seal 911 and PeckShield are working together on the investigation. Authorities were also notified. In a interesting twist, the team offered the attacker a bounty to return the stolen assets and not to press charges.

Shibarium Bridge at the Heart of the Ecosystem
The Shibarium bridge is the backbone of the Shiba Inu Layer-2 ecosystem, allowing to transfer SHIB, BONE, LEASH and other tokens between Ethereum and Shibarium. The bridge reduces fees, speed up transactions and supports DeFi, gaming and metaverse projects.
Beyond security updates, Shiba Inu developers announced the LEASH V2 token migration, with a fixed ratio to make the transition smooth for existing holders. Also ShibaSwap rolled out a major redesign focused on multi-chain trading and liquidity management to position SHIB as a competitive DeFi hub.
Risks Across the Crypto Networks
The bridge hack highlights the broader blockchain vulnerabilities. Just last month, intelligence firm Arkham reported the largest Bitcoin theft on record: 127,000 BTC stolen from a Chinese mining pool.
The Shiba Inu team is also dealing with social engineering scams. Attackers exploited expired Discord links to lure users into fake servers and trick them into “verifying” wallets and draining funds in minutes.
Despite the risks, the freeze of 4.6 million BONE tokens has given temporary market relief. BONE is up 41% in the last 24h.
