Craig Wright Claims to Be Bitcoin Creator. Lawyers Prove Otherwise
Who is Satoshi Nakamoto, the anonymous Bitcoin creator? It is a mystery that has haunted the cryptocurrency industry for years. People have been trying to figure out his identity for a long time.
They have had no success, but Craig Wright, a computer scientist from Australia, says he is Satoshi. His evidence of this incredible claim are various documents, meetings he has attended, and his background in technology.
He has been making this claim for years, but that notion has been thoroughly destroyed by a UK court this year. The court claims that Wright is making up false claims and that he is definitely not the Bitcoin founder.
That means that the true identity of Satoshi is still unknown.
The Case Against Wright
Both Kraken and Coinbase threw their support behind the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (Copa) which challenged Wright’s claims to the title of Bitcoin founder. Wright has been claiming that he is owed billions of dollars from Bitcoin developers for theft and damages.
The case boiled down to the white paper for Bitcoin, which Copa claimed was not owned by Wright. That white paper was published back in 20008, and it serves as a source document for the payment system that would be set up with Bitcoin. Rather than try to prove that Wright was not Satoshi, Copa’s lawyers attempted to prove that he did not own the white paper, which Satoshi would have written and owned.
This is a case that started all the way back in 2020, when Wright was contacting websites and asking them to remove the white paper, which he claimed belonged to him.
A detailed investigation began then as lawyers looked into handwritten notes and where papers had originated, all connected to the creation of Bitcoin. Ultimately, they determined that Wright is not Satoshi and did not have a hand in creating Bitcoin as he claimed.
