Google intends to begin manufacturing Pixel devices in India by the next quarter, amid tensions between the United States and China, the American tech giant has been working to diversify its supply chain away from China to take advantage of the expanding smartphone market in India, the report continued.

The tech giant also intends to take advantage of India’s advantageous business climate in addition to the country’s sizable consumer base by locating production there. It is predicted that the tech giant will experience cost savings as a result of the shift, which will also streamline logistics.

It is still unknown how many phones Google intends to produce in India, even if the story does not say how many. It is also unclear if the phones would just be sold domestically or if they will also be exported. To reduce supply chain risks, big IT companies are diversifying their manufacturing locations, which is in line with the company’s decision to move production to India.

Industry insiders will be closely observing Google’s production progress as the April-June quarter draws near, as well as any implications for Pixel smartphone availability and pricing in both local and overseas markets.

Google plans to reach a “milestone” this year by shipping “around 10 million” Pixel phones, as it did in 2023. Most of those 2023 shipments were probably made up of Pixel 7 and 7 Pro models, though no breakdown was provided.

Then there are the Pixel 6a and 7a for the first and second half of the year, respectively. In addition, Google unveiled the Pixel Fold. Shipments of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro should begin at least 2.5 months early in 2023. Google intends to use India to produce the Pixel 8 series. This project was unveiled in October of last year. This is a component of Google’s industrial diversification strategy, which also includes Vietnam, to increase “supply chain resilience.”

Google intends to begin shipping Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones in the middle of 2024 and April–June, respectively. In India, Google will face off against the leading smartphone manufacturers, Samsung and Apple, as well as the Chinese companies Vivo and Xiaomi.
