Lula does not recognize Maduro’s victory validated by Venezuelan court.

The opposition has published copies of more than 80% of the voting records on a website.

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has stated that he does not recognize Nicolás Maduro’s victory in Venezuela’s presidential election, which was validated by the Venezuelan Supreme Court. Lula also rejected the results published by the opposition, which claims victory.

“I do not accept his (Maduro’s) victory or the opposition’s,” Lula said during an interview with the radio station à MaisPB on Friday. Lula, along with Colombian President Gustavo Petro, has led efforts to mediate negotiations between Maduro and the opposition, insisting that the election results, including detailed vote counts, should be made public.

“The opposition claims they won. He (Maduro) claims he won, but there is no proof. We demand proof,” Lula emphasized. Maduro, who has been president since 2013, was declared re-elected by the National Electoral Council with 52% of the votes in the July 28 elections. The Supreme Court later validated the result, though both institutions are accused of serving Maduro’s interests.

The opposition has published copies of more than 80% of the voting records on a website, which they claim prove their candidate, Edmundo González Urrutia, won and that Maduro’s victory was fraudulent.

With these statements, Lula, a strong ally of the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, Maduro’s political mentor, intensifies his stance against Venezuela. He aligns himself with a group of Latin American countries, the United States, and the European Union that reject the validation of Maduro’s victory.
