What Will Happen to Bitcoin before the Next Halving in 2028?

While Bitcoin experienced a halving this year, these kinds of events are quite rare. They make Bitcoin harder to mine on purpose, so the supply of new Bitcoin will last longer.

This is supposed to extend Bitcoin’s lifespan and make it more valuable, in theory. We have not seen Bitcoin benefit from its halving this year, but instead the token has fallen well below its all-time high and is struggling at a price point of $55,230 (BTC/USD) right now.

The coin is down 5.56% over the last week, and it is pulling down much of the crypto market with it. Bitcoin has been unable to get back above $60K for a few days now, which is very damaging to investor sentiment.

The Next Halving

It can be predicted with some accuracy when another halving event is going to take place. Bitcoin experts do not expect the coin to go through another halving process until 2028. The way this is predicted is by looking at how quickly a new Bitcoin block is created, which is about every 10 minutes. Once 210,000 new blocks have been created, then a Bitcoin halving event occurs.

The expectation is that the last of the Bitcoins will be mined in 2140, at the current rate of block creation. Halvings tend to create some pressure for the coin’s price, pushing it upward. That is typical, but not absolute.

If the next halving does not occur until 2028, then there is no halving pressure being put on Bitcoin until then. Investors will have to rely on outside factors to influence the price, particularly economic factors like inflation, the value of the dollar, consumer spending, and other influences.

The current pricing pattern could mean that Bitcoin will peak again in 2025 like it did early in 2024. We could see a new all-time high at that point, but until next year, the coin may continue to falter.

Over the long term, Bitcoin is expected to climb much higher, and we have seen incredible growth from the coin from year to year. If investors put money down on Bitcoin now, they should see a good return on their investment sometime in 2025. That investment could pay off in a big way in 2028 after the next halving.
