Time Magazine Names Trump Person of the Year 2024
Time Magazine has named Donald Trump, the president-elect of the United States, as its Person of the Year 2024, marking the second time the Republican leader has received this honor.
Trump was first recognized in 2016 following his unexpected victory over Hillary Clinton.
“For leading a historic comeback, driving a once-in-a-generation political realignment, reshaping the American presidency, and redefining the United States’ role on the global stage, Donald Trump is Time’s Person of the Year 2024,” the magazine stated.
Trump, who defeated Vice President Kamala Harris in the November 5 elections, is featured on this week’s Time cover wearing his signature red tie and striking a contemplative pose.
Unstoppable Year
Trump is set to end the year preparing to return to the White House. His victory also secured Republican majorities in both the House and Senate, setting the stage for significant policy shifts.
Time’s Editor-in-Chief noted: “We are witnessing the resurgence of populism, a growing mistrust in the institutions that defined the last century, and a weakening belief in liberal values as a path to a better life for most people. Trump is both the catalyst and the beneficiary of these trends.”
Historic Impact
Trump’s influence extends far beyond electoral politics. His ability to dominate global headlines, shape public discourse, and steer political and cultural movements earned him this recognition. As with every “Person of the Year,” the title reflects not only achievements but also the profound and polarizing impact on society.
Trump is also scheduled to make a symbolic appearance at the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday morning, where he will ring the NYSE opening bell, underscoring his centrality in both political and economic spheres.
