HEIR: NBA Legend Michael Jordan’s Latest Foray Into The Crypto World
One of the biggest names in NBA history, Michael Jordan is all set to make his entry into the world of Web3, announcing a fan engagement app developed on the Solana blockchain. Titled HEIR, the platform will offer professional athletes a place to connect with their biggest supporters.
It will also include a native token HEIR, which will be minted on Solana’s high speed blockchain network, in addition to providing a way for athletes to share NFTs. HEIR will also offer exclusive access and benefits to an athlete’s “huddle” for its users.
The company behind the platform has been co-founded by Jordan along with his son, Jeffrey Jordan. So far, the venture has already raised $10 million in seed capital and is set to launch sometime in 2022.
The fundraising round was led by Thrive Capital, and saw participation from several named players in the space, including Solana Ventures, Alexis Ohanian – co-founder at Reddit, Lonzo Ball – Bulls player as well as Executive Vice President at the New York Knicks, William Wesley.
This is Michael Jordan’s third foray into the crypto space after he contributed to funding NBA Top Shot’s creator Dapper Labs and then funding the Series C round for Mythical Games. HEIR merges the power of social media with cryptocurrency to give athletes more control over how they wish to engage with their fans and monetize on the opportunity.
