South American Meat Recalls Frozen Raw Beef Products

South American Meat Inc., also known as 5Gogi LLC, is recalling around 20,111 pounds of various eligible frozen raw beef products imported without benefit of import reinspection, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service or FSIS.

The various frozen raw beef items that were imported from Uruguay on or around March 17 were not presented to FSIS for import reinspection upon entry into the United States.

The products subject to recall were available in various weight cardboard cases labeled as “Frigorífico Casa Blanca S.A., containing individually vacuum sealed products displaying “FRICASA”.

The recall includes Aguja Chuck Roll” with case code JP0001; Asado Sin Hueso Short Rib” with case code JP0002; Bife Ancho Cube Roll” with case code JP0003; Bife Angosto Striploin” with case code JP0004; Bife Grande De Vacío Flap Meat” with case code JP0005; Carnaza De Paleta Shoulder Clod” with case code JP0006; Lomo Tenderloin” with case code JP0007; Marucha Oyster Blade” with case code JP0008; and Pecho Brisket” with case code JP0009.

The impacted products bear Uruguay establishment number “58” printed inside the Uruguay inspection mark located on the shipping box and vacuum sealed product packaging.

These items were shipped to distributors, restaurants, retailers, and institutions in Arizona, California, Oregon, and Washington.

The recall was initiated after the FSIS, during routine surveillance activities of imported products, determined that the products were not presented for its import reinspection.

However, the Commerce, California-based importer have not received any confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products so far.

Over concern that some products may be in the freezers of consumers, distributors, restaurants, retailers, or institutions, the agency urged them to throw away the impacted products or return to the place of purchase.
