New Week, New Highs for Dow and S&P 500 Despite Elevated Tensions
The rally in stock markets is not stopping any time soon, as the S&P 500 continues to print new record highs almost every day

The rally in stock markets is not stopping any time soon, as the S&P 500 continues to print new record highs almost every day, followed by Dow Jones, Nasdaq and then the European indices. Risk sentiment turned negative today as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East remain high, while news from China was disappointing to start the new week, however, that didn’t stop stock markets from making new record highs. As a result, The Nasdaq increased by about 1%, the Dow by 0.5%, and the S&P by 0.8%.

With key markets affected by holidays, trading was subdued. Japan’s market led the activity in Asia, with the U.S. and Canada seeing more limited engagement. The Chinese yuan faced pressure following a widely anticipated news conference in China that did not deliver on expected stimulus details, affecting risk-sensitive currencies. The Australian dollar also struggled, with the AUD/USD pair down 0.5% to 0.6715, hovering near the day’s lows.

The U.S. session opened with mixed results for the major index futures, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average starting in the red, while the S&P 500 reached its 46th record close. The NASDAQ led the gains, and all major indices saw substantial increases by the end of the U.S. session.
