ENS Partners With Linea to Launch Layer 2 ‘Namechain,’ ENSv2 Upgrade
ENS is building out its infrastructure with the launch of Namechain, a Layer 2 network on Linea’s zkEVM.
Linea, backed by Consensys, means seamless compatibility with Ethereum smart contracts and tools so the transition to Layer 2 is a breeze.
This is part of ENS’s broader ENSv2 upgrade, which moves domain registrations and renewals to the new Layer 2 network. But name resolution will still be on Ethereum Layer 1 so everything is still integrated with the Ethereum ecosystem.
Linea’s trust-minimised ERC-3668 will be key to decentralized cross-chain name resolution for subnames so ENS can be more interoperable and functional.
ENSv2 and Namechain: A Cost-Effective Solution
The ENSv2 upgrade brings many improvements to scalability and efficiency. By using Linea’s Layer 2 solution ENS can increase transaction throughput, making domain name registrations and renewals cheaper. ENS can process more transactions without slowing down or costing more.
ENS Labs said in a recent statement:
“Our joint roadmap will be focused on ENS and Linea protocol enhancements and serving L2s and their users.”
The Namechain launch fits with ENS’s mission of providing:
Cross-chain name resolution
Decentralized hosting
Identity verification
This means users have more flexibility and less gas fees, a big problem on Ethereum Layer 1.
Growing Adoption and Positive Token Momentum
ENS has had some big integrations. Earlier this year ENS partnered with PayPal and Venmo, so over 270 million users in the US can now transfer cryptocurrency. That’s ENS bridging blockchain and mainstream payment systems.
Namechain and the ENSv2 upgrade has sent the ENS token flying. According to CoinMarketCap:
16% in the last week
130% in the last month
This is a vote of confidence in ENS’s long term vision and scalability solutions.
ENS is a decentralized alternative to traditional domain name systems like .com and .org, a human readable format for Ethereum addresses. By working with Linea ENS is cementing its position as the leading blockchain naming system.
Key Takeaways:
ENS launches Namechain on Linea’s zkEVM for Layer 2 scaling.
ENSv2 shifts domain registrations to Layer 2 while retaining Layer 1 resolution.
The ENS token has gained 130% in a month, driven by growing adoption.
Linea’s ERC-3668 enables cross-chain name resolution for ENS subnames.
ENS’s PayPal and Venmo integrations highlight its real-world utility.
