Why Is Micron (MU) Stock Up Today? AI Spending, Samsung Outlook Fuel Memory Rally
Micron stock rebounds as Microsoft's AI spending and Samsung's memory outlook boost sentiment. Key MU support, resistance and HBM outlook.
Micron Technology (NASDAQ: MU) experienced a strong surge recently due to the overall positive sentiment regarding semiconductor stocks following Microsoft’s recent, better-than-expected, AI-inspired quarterly performance, combined with positive comments surrounding future memory demand from Samsung. The positive sentiment surrounding Micron was pronounced, despite a reported slowdown in U.S. GDP of 1.5%. Investors are refocusing on AI-based spending on infrastructure within the economy in conjunction with Micron’s sold-out High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) supply.
Micron experienced a major price recovery on Thursday following AI-related semiconductor stocks price recoveries due to Microsoft’s most recent quarterly performance and Samsung’s recent performance and comments on the memory sector. Although the most recent U.S. GDP statistics and inflation numbers have strengthened market-based predictions for the U.S. Federal Reserve to cut the benchmark interest rate in September, Micron’s positive long-term fundamentals have been led by the demand for Micron’s products related to AI.

AI Memory Demand Grows Again After Microsoft and Samsung
Given Microsoft’s continued extremely positive quarterly performance in the AI space and Microsoft’s continued aggressive AI-based infrastructure investments, Micron and other high bandwidth memory (HBM) suppliers, have experienced highly bullish investment sentiment previously and have also benefitted greatly from the positive sentiment surrounding AI infrastructure investments and continued investments in the AI sector from major technology firms.
Micron was also buoyed by Samsung Electronics’ latest quarterly performance, the continued tightening supply of memory products, as well as Samsung’s comments regarding memory supply not balancing for a number of years. Samsung’s comments, in conjunction with previously mentioned factors, have generated bullish sentiment around Micron, SK Hynix, and memory stocks globally.
The U.S. economy grew by just 1.5% in the second quarter, and Core PCE inflation decreased. Still, softer macro data led investors to believe interest rates would decrease in the near future, which would support tech valuations.
Micron’s AI Leadership Continues to Strengthen
Micron’s reported quarter shows why it is a leading AI infrastructure stock. Revenue in the fiscal third quarter was a record at $41.46 billion and non-GAAP EPS was $25.11. Micron’s guidance for fiscal Q4 is around $50 billion as the pricing for DRAM and HBM products is expected to continue strong.
The CEO reported that multi-year agreements for HBM in 2026 were signed and that the agreements are backed by $22 billion of customer deposits and long-term supply guarantees. These agreements give strong certainty to future revenue and allow Micron to invest in memory capacity.
Micron Technical Analysis: Recovery Faces Major EMA Resistance
Micron re-bounded strongly after the $676.15 level, the 1.618 Fibonacci extension was defended, and the stock was pushed above $803.30 and on to $866.00. Recovery of momentum was short-term, and in the broader picture was constrained since price was trading below the 50-day EMA at $894.10 and 200-day EMA at $897.30.

A major resistance area lies between $894 and $960, and consists of the aforementioned 50-day and 200-day EMAs, as well as a trendline drawn from the June lower highs. A breakout in this zone would confirm a bullish Micron stock forecast, with the next upward price targets of $960.40, and $1,009.00.
Momentum has improved significantly. With the RSI now at approximately 50 after previously being in the oversold territory, it seems that the buying interest is taking control, with no overextension in the stock.
