Bombardier Recreational Products Recalls Ski-Doo Snowmobiles
Cannada-based Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. or BRP is recalling about 8100 units of Ski-Doo MXZ and Renegade Snowmobiles equipped with Pilot X Skis, according to the U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission or CPSC.
The snowmobile’s left ski can break, posing a risk of serious injury and crash hazard.
The recall involves all model year 2024 Ski-Doo MXZ and Renegade snowmobiles models that were equipped with Pilot X skis. They were sold in a variety of colors, with Ski-Doo and the model’s name printed on the side panels of the vehicles.
Pilot X is engraved at the back of the ski, on the upper side, with the vehicle identification number or VIN on the decal located on the right-hand side of tunnel underneath the seat.
The vehicles were manufactured by Bombardier Recreational Products of Canada and were imported by BRP US Inc., of Sturtevant, Wisconsin. They were sold by authorized Ski-Doo dealers nationwide from June 2023 through January 2024 for between $10,000 and $18,000.
In addition, about 5,600 units were sold in Canada.
So far, the firm has received 27 reports of the snowmobile’s left ski breaking in the US but no reports of injuries. The company is aware of one incident in Canada resulting in an injury.
The agency is urging consumers to immediately stop using the recalled snowmobiles and contact BRP to schedule a free repair at the dealership by replacing the left ski free of cost.
In similar recalls, Medina, Minnesota-based Polaris Inc., in the previous month, recalled about 9,200 units of MATRYX snowmobiles equipped with PATRIOT 650 and 850 Engines citing a faulty clutch.
In December, Polaris had recalled about 5100 units of Patriot snowmobiles due to clutch issues.
