Chile: The dollar opens lower in early trading and falls below $980.

Investors are awaiting two more significant data releases for the week in the United States: GDP on Thursday and Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) Index on Friday.

The price of the dollar in Chile, after morning fluctuations on Wednesday, is operating at $980, with the market still awaiting the inflation data to be published on Thursday and Friday in the United States.

In early trading, the dollar fell by $2.6 to $978.33, according to market quotations. Later, it recovered and returned to the $980 range. Internationally, the dollar index, which compares the US dollar with a series of world currencies, was trading flat.

Investors are in a wait-and-see mode before learning the two most important data points of the week in the US: GDP on Thursday and the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) Index on Friday, where there is an indicator that the Federal Reserve closely watches.

Both data points will show the real state of health of the world’s largest economy, and depending on their results, they could influence the future monetary policy decision of the Fed.

Meanwhile, Comex copper, main export of Chile, futures contracts were down by 0.24% at $3.99 per pound.

Meanwhile, Chile’s main index, the S&P IPSA, is reaching new highs.

The S&P IPSA was up 1.12% to 6,593.57 points – session highs – in the early afternoon at the Santiago Stock Exchange, which, if sustained, would mark a new historical high, extending its performance from the previous day. The biggest gains were seen in SQM-B (4.36%), CMPC (2.5%), and Ripley (2.03%), with only six out of the 29 IPSA stocks in the negative.
