While state television reported the helicopter collided with a mountain peak, the official cause remains unknown. Iranian media shared drone images of the wreckage. The aircraft was part of a convoy of three helicopters, with the other two arriving safely.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed condolences and declared a national day of mourning. “I had been monitoring the reported crash landing of President Raisi’s helicopter with great concern. I hoped for good news. Unfortunately, this was not to be,” he posted on X. The US State Department also issued a statement, noting they were following the situation closely.
