Claudia Sheinbaum,won the 2025 presidential elections in Mexico

Claudia Sheinbaum, the virtual winner of the 2024 presidential elections in Mexico, secured a margin of between 58.3% and 60.7% of the preferences, reported the president councilor of the National Electoral Institute.

Guadalupe Taddei, the president councilor of the National Electoral Institute (INE), presented the results of the Quick Count for the presidential elections minutes before midnight, declaring Claudia Sheinbaum, candidate of the coalition “Sigamos Haciendo Historia,” the virtual winner with a margin between 58.3% and 60.7% of the preferences.

Thousands of supporters of Morena, PT, and PVEM gathered at the Zócalo in Mexico City to celebrate the results after the elections held on June 2, where voter turnout was between 60% and 61% of the electoral roll, according to INE data.

In second place is the candidate from PRI, PAN, and PRD, Xóchitl Gálvez, with results ranging between 26.6% and 28.6% of the votes. Meanwhile, Jorge Álvarez Máynez, candidate of Movimiento Ciudadano (MC), obtained between 9.9% and 10.8% of the votes.

“I will not let you down,” said a smiling and excited Sheinbaum, dressed in a blouse with indigenous embroidery, after the results were announced. “This is the recognition of the people of Mexico for our national project,” she added while her supporters cheered her on with chants of “President!”

Sheinbaum, a physicist and former head of government of Mexico City, arrived at Sunday’s general elections with a significant lead in the vote intention to govern the world’s 12th largest economy and the largest Spanish-speaking country, with a population of 129 million, until 2030.
