M&A Transactions in Latin America Decreased by 26% in May; Brazil and Mexico Lead the Activity

Colombia ranks as the fourth country in the region with the most negotiations, which declined by 2%, registering 105 transactions so far this year.

The Latin American M&A market fell in May compared to the same period in 2024, according to the latest report from TTR Data. The report shows that the number of transactions carried out in May was 149, a decrease of 26%, and the value of these transactions was $6.157 billion, representing a 25% decrease.

As of May, there have been 996 mergers and acquisitions announced and closed this year, with a total value of $26 billion. Brazil led with the most transactions, 592, which dropped by 29%, and the capital mobilized was $16.129 billion, also a 3% decrease.

Mexico followed with 130 transactions (a 16% drop) and a significant decrease of 68% in the value of these deals ($3.189 billion) compared to May 2023. Chile ranked third with 113 transactions, a 33% decrease and an even higher drop in capital mobilized, 71%, amounting to $2.371 billion in 2024.

Colombia dropped to fourth place in the ranking, with its transactions declining by 2%, reaching 105 transactions. The year-on-year decrease in capital mobilized was 8%, totaling $2.189 billion.

In Other Major Business News the e-commerce giant Mercado Libre continues to accumulate successes: it has been ranked 57th on the 2024 Kantar Brandz list of the world’s 100 most valuable brands.

In 2022, Mercado Libre entered the list for the first time, ranking 71st. In 2023, it was placed 72nd, and now it has climbed 15 spots, making it one of the fastest-growing brands and earning a place among the Top Raisers. The company now has a brand value of $32.831 billion.
