The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service or FSIS has issued a public health alert for Century Pacific Food Inc.’s ready-to-eat meat and poultry products. The impacted products were illegally imported from the Philippines, a country not eligible to export meat and poultry products to the United States.
The warning has been issued against select products under Argentina Brand, Purefoods, Chunkee, and Lady’s Choice brands.
The products subject to the public health alert, regardless of the product date, include Argentina Brand Corned Beef in 150-g., 175-g. and 260-g. cans; Purefoods Corned Beef in 150-g. and 210-g. cans; Chunkee Corned Beef in 150-g. and 190-g. cans, as well as Lady’s Choice Chicken Spread in 7.43-oz. Jar.
The alerted products do not bear any producing establishment information. These items were shipped to restaurant and retail locations in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, and Virginia.
The warning was given after FSIS, during routine surveillance activities at a retailer, found meat and poultry products from the Philippines that are not eligible to be exported to the U.S.
However, there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products so far.
Over concern that some products may be in consumers’ and restaurants’ pantries and on retailers’ shelves, the agency urged them not to sell, consume or serve the products and to discard the items. They can contact John Ducar, Owner, Redsealuxury, LLC for further details.
FSIS said it is continuing to investigate how these products entered the country.
