Hayward, California-based Thal Golden Spices Inc. is recalling 640 Packs of Bikano Moong Dal 350g citing the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The recall involves Bikano Moong Dal Plain in 350g size, with Best Used By Date of June 25, 2025. The impacted product was distributed in the state of California through retail stores.
The recall was initiated after the company recently discovered an oversight in the distribution process of one of its products. The product was released without proper lab results.
The issue was found during an FDA inspection when inspectors identified discrepancies in the batch numbers slated for destruction. The company said it is working to rectify the error.
Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain, while infection with Salmonella in rare circumstances can cause more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis.
However, the company has not received any reports of illnesses related to the recalled product so far.
Consumers who have purchased the impacted Bikano Moong Dal are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
In similar recalls, Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois -based AB World Foods US, Inc. in mid-July called back Al’Fez Natural Tahini citing the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.
In late June, Weston, Ohio-based Vitakraft Sun Seed Inc. recalled one lot of Sun Seed Vita Prima Hedgehog Food for the same concern.
