The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has announced recalls of Cachapa de Maiz sweet corn pancakes as well as Korean Seasoned Seaweed citing the possible presence of undeclared allergens.
Miami, Florida-based Tipical Latin Food Corp. is recalling Cachapa de Maiz sweet corn pancakes labeled under Los Andes Foods due to undeclared wheat.
Further, Santa Fe Springs, California-based Wismettac Asian Foods, Inc. is recalling 3.52 oz packages of Shirakiku brand Korean Seasoned Seaweed for undeclared sesame allergen.
Tipical Latin Food noted that the recalled Cachapa de Maiz sweet corn pancakes were distributed to TRIMAR USA LLC in Miami, Florida, who further distributed the product to retail and wholesale customers. The impacted lot numbers range from 2622404 to 2772412.
The recall was initiated after it was discovered that product containing wheat was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of wheat. In the investigation, it was found that the problem was caused by a labeling issue during the company’s labeling process.
Wismettac Asian Foods’ impacted Korean Seasoned Seaweed is packaged in a 3.52 oz, illustrated plastic bag, containing 5 inner packages. The correct UPC for the product is 074410516031, located on the back right side of the outer package. However, the outer package has an incorrect allergen declaration due to the unintentional use of incorrect packing material, which also displays the wrong UPC: 074410495534.
The product was distributed in CA, AZ, TX, NM, WA, NY, NV through retail stores and resturants. The recall was initiated after discovering that the product contained an undeclared sesame. As per the probe, the issue was caused by the unintentional use of incorrect packaging material for the product.
People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to wheat or sesame may get serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
However, both companies have not received any reports of illnesses related to the respective recalled products.
In both recalls, consumers who have purchased the product are urged to return them to the place of purchase. Wismettac Asian Foods has offered a full refund.
