Bitcoin Holds Firm Above $64,000 as Institutional Demand Strengthens
Bitcoin entered the second half of 2026 with renewed momentum, stabilising above the $64,000 level after recovering sharply from June’s selloff. The world’s largest cryptocurrency has gained roughly 12% from its lowest level this year, supported by stronger institutional demand, improving US regulatory prospects and softer macroeconomic data.
The rebound comes despite an increasingly challenging backdrop for risk assets. Hawkish Federal Reserve communication, renewed geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and weakness across US equity markets have all weighed on investor sentiment. Nevertheless, Bitcoin has shown notable resilience, suggesting buyers continue to accumulate during periods of market weakness.
While volatility remains elevated, several fundamental and technical developments have improved Bitcoin’s outlook heading into the second half of the year.
ETF Inflows Signal Continued Institutional Accumulation
Institutional demand continues to provide one of Bitcoin’s strongest sources of support.
According to SoSoValue data, US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded inflows for four consecutive trading sessions, including approximately $132 million on Friday alone. Although broader market sentiment remained cautious, the consistent inflows suggest long-term investors continue accumulating Bitcoin rather than reducing exposure.
The renewed buying helped offset the broader risk-off environment that pushed both the Nasdaq 100 and S&P 500 lower during the week amid concerns surrounding technology valuations and escalating geopolitical tensions.
Persistent ETF inflows during periods of market uncertainty are often viewed as a constructive signal, indicating institutional investors remain confident in Bitcoin’s longer-term outlook despite short-term volatility.
Collectively, spot Bitcoin ETFs now control close to 6% of Bitcoin’s maximum supply, highlighting the growing influence of traditional financial institutions on the cryptocurrency market.
Futures Market Reflects Growing Bullish Positioning
Derivatives markets also point to strengthening investor confidence.
CoinGlass data shows Bitcoin futures open interest has climbed to approximately $47.6 billion, up from around $44 billion recorded last month.
At the same time, the weighted funding rate has remained positive since late June.
A positive funding rate means traders holding long positions are paying those holding short positions, reflecting stronger demand for bullish exposure in perpetual futures markets.
Although elevated open interest can increase short-term volatility, it also indicates rising market participation and improving liquidity.
Investors will also be watching Strategy’s latest corporate activity report after the company recently raised additional capital through share sales while confirming it had not sold any Bitcoin during the latest reporting period. Earlier in the quarter, however, the company sold more than $200 million worth of Bitcoin to strengthen its cash position.
Bitcoin Rebounds From Critical Technical Support
Bitcoin’s recent recovery began after a sharp correction briefly pushed prices below the important $58,000 support zone during June.
The decline attracted significant buying interest, allowing prices to rebound quickly above $64,000 and, at one stage, move back above $65,000.
From a technical perspective, successfully defending the $58,000 area has improved market sentiment considerably.
Repeated failures by sellers to maintain prices below that level suggest bearish momentum may be fading while longer-term investors continue viewing pullbacks as buying opportunities.
Although Bitcoin remains below previous record highs, the latest recovery has strengthened the argument that a medium-term price floor may now be developing.
Technical Structure Defines the Next Inflection Point
From a technical perspective, Bitcoin’s price behavior early in 2026 shows that it tried to resume the uptrend following a period retreat in late 2025, which sent Bitcoin decisively below the 100-week moving average for the first time since 2023 and signaling that the market had entered a corrective phase. The decline stabilized for a while and we saw a rebound off the $60,000 level in June, reinforcing the importance of that level as long-term structural support.
BTC/USD Chart Weekly – The 200 SMA Held as Support
In the following weeks the price rebounded, however the 20 weekly SMA rejected the price in May and BTC reversed lower again. The price dipped below the 60K level, bur 200-week moving average just below $60,000 held as suport and we saw a rebound last week. A sustained break below it would open the door to deeper downside toward the psychologically important $50,000 region. Conversely, the ability to push above the $80,000 zone increases the probability of a gradual recovery toward $100,000 and, over time, the $100,000–$126,000 region. But BTC has to push above the 50 daily SMA for the upside to pick momentum.

Regulatory Progress Boosts Investor Confidence
Regulatory developments remain another important driver of Bitcoin sentiment.
Investors continue monitoring progress on the CLARITY Act, legislation designed to establish a clearer regulatory framework for digital assets in the United States.
The bill has already advanced through the House of Representatives and the Senate Banking Committee, with market participants awaiting a full Senate vote before Congress begins its August recess.
Supporters believe the legislation could significantly reduce regulatory uncertainty, encourage greater institutional participation and accelerate broader adoption of cryptocurrencies across traditional financial markets.
Clearer regulation has become one of the industry’s most anticipated long-term catalysts.
Corporate Ownership Continues Expanding
Institutional ownership of Bitcoin continues growing beyond exchange-traded funds.
Publicly listed companies are estimated to hold roughly 5.7% of circulating Bitcoin, with Strategy remaining the largest corporate holder after building one of the world’s biggest Bitcoin treasuries.
Other major corporate holders include Tesla and SpaceX, while government entities collectively control an estimated 2.5% of Bitcoin’s supply.
The steady expansion of institutional ownership continues reducing the amount of Bitcoin available in public markets, reinforcing the long-term supply-demand dynamics that many investors view as supportive for prices.
Outlook Remains Constructive
Bitcoin enters the new week with improving momentum after successfully defending key technical support and stabilising above $64,000.
Growing ETF inflows, rising futures activity, expanding institutional ownership and optimism surrounding US cryptocurrency legislation continue to strengthen the medium-term outlook. At the same time, softer US economic data has eased concerns about further monetary tightening, helping support demand for digital assets.
However, risks remain. Hawkish Federal Reserve policy, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and broader market volatility could still generate periods of sharp price swings. From a technical standpoint, maintaining support above $58,000 remains crucial, while a sustained break above recent resistance levels would provide stronger confirmation that Bitcoin’s broader recovery is gaining traction.
For now, improving institutional demand and a more favourable regulatory backdrop are helping Bitcoin withstand macroeconomic headwinds, leaving the cryptocurrency in a stronger position as the second half of 2026 unfolds.
