Bitcoin has entered the second half of 2026 on firmer footing, with ETF inflows, improving regulatory expectations and stronger institutional participation helping the cryptocurrency withstand geopolitical and broader risk-market pressures.

Bitcoin Holds Above Support as Buyers Return

Bitcoin started the second half of 2026 with renewed momentum after recovering from its June selloff and stabilizing above the $60,000 support area.

The cryptocurrency has established a pattern of higher lows, providing an encouraging technical signal after the sharp decline earlier in the year. Bitcoin has also recovered roughly 12% from its 2026 low.

However, the broader environment remains challenging. Hawkish Federal Reserve communication, geopolitical tensions and weakness across U.S. equity markets continue to create volatility for risk assets.

Bitcoin’s ability to remain above support despite these pressures suggests that buyers are continuing to accumulate during periods of weakness.

ETF Inflows Highlight Institutional Demand

One of the strongest sources of support for Bitcoin remains institutional demand through U.S. spot exchange-traded funds.

According to SoSoValue data, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded inflows for four consecutive trading sessions, including approximately $132 million on Friday.

Consistent inflows are particularly significant because they occurred while broader markets remained under pressure.

Rather than aggressively reducing exposure during periods of uncertainty, institutional investors appear to be maintaining or increasing their Bitcoin positions.

Spot Bitcoin ETFs now collectively control close to 6% of Bitcoin’s maximum supply, highlighting the growing role of traditional financial markets in cryptocurrency demand.

Futures Market Shows Stronger Bullish Positioning

Bitcoin derivatives markets are also showing signs of improving sentiment.

CoinGlass data indicates that Bitcoin futures open interest has increased to approximately $47.6 billion, compared with around $44 billion the previous month.

The weighted funding rate has also remained positive since late June.

Positive funding generally indicates stronger demand for long positions, as bullish traders pay short-position holders to maintain their exposure.

However, rising open interest is not automatically bullish. A highly leveraged derivatives market can increase volatility and amplify both upward and downward price movements.

Investors are therefore likely to monitor whether rising futures activity is supported by genuine spot-market demand.

Regulatory Optimism Supports the Outlook

Regulatory developments in the United States remain another important factor for Bitcoin.

Market participants are closely watching the CLARITY Act, which seeks to establish a clearer regulatory framework for digital assets.

The legislation has advanced through the House of Representatives and the Senate Banking Committee, with investors awaiting further Senate action.

Greater regulatory clarity could reduce uncertainty for financial institutions and encourage additional institutional participation in digital assets.

For Bitcoin, clearer rules could therefore become an important long-term catalyst, particularly if major financial institutions become more comfortable expanding cryptocurrency-related products and services.

Corporate Bitcoin Ownership Continues Growing

Technical Structure Defines the Next Inflection Point

From a technical perspective, Bitcoin’s price behavior early in 2026 shows that it tried to resume the uptrend following a period retreat in late 2025, which sent Bitcoin decisively below the 100-week moving average for the first time since 2023 and signaling that the market had entered a corrective phase. The decline stabilized for a while and we saw a rebound off the $60,000 level in June, reinforcing the importance of that level as long-term structural support.

In the following weeks the price rebounded, however the 20 weekly SMA rejected the price in May and BTC reversed lower again. The price dipped below the 60K level, bur 200-week moving average just below $60,000 held as suport and we saw a rebound last week. A sustained break below it would open the door to deeper downside toward the psychologically important $50,000 region. Conversely, the ability  to push above the $80,000 zone increases the probability of a gradual recovery toward $100,000 and, over time, the $100,000–$126,000 region. But BTC has to push above the 50 daily SMA for the upside to pick momentum.

Bitcoin ownership is also expanding beyond ETFs.

Publicly listed companies are estimated to hold approximately 5.7% of circulating Bitcoin, with Strategy remaining the largest corporate holder.

Other major corporate holders include Tesla and SpaceX, while government entities collectively control an estimated 2.5% of Bitcoin’s supply.

The growing presence of corporate and institutional holders could influence Bitcoin’s supply-demand dynamics by reducing the amount of cryptocurrency actively available in public markets.

Nevertheless, concentrated ownership can also create risks if large holders decide to sell during periods of market stress.

Bitcoin Faces a Crucial Second-Half Test

Bitcoin’s recovery above $60,000 and its developing pattern of higher lows provide encouraging technical signals.

At the same time, ETF inflows, rising institutional participation and regulatory progress are strengthening the fundamental backdrop.

However, Bitcoin remains highly sensitive to Federal Reserve policy, Treasury yields, geopolitical developments and broader risk appetite.

The key question for the second half of 2026 will be whether institutional demand can continue absorbing supply while Bitcoin maintains its technical structure.

For now, holding above $60,000 remains important, while sustained ETF inflows and a continuation of higher lows could strengthen the case for a broader recovery. Conversely, renewed risk aversion or a deterioration in institutional flows could quickly put support levels under pressure.
