Stock Market Uncertain after Volatile Week

We are seeing lots of volatility in the US stock market as the focus shifts away from tech stocks and we get closer to interest rate cuts.

The US stock market is high ahead of Monday’s market opening, with the Dow Jones having gained 1.64% on Friday. The S&P 500 climbed by 1.11%, and the Nasdaq Composite gained 1.03%.

US stocks are volatile right now.

Last week saw minor overall movement for the market, with the market indices climbing between 0.3% and 0.5% for the week. This week could be incredibly busy across the stock market, as election news continues to break and impact the markets. We are also seeing more participation in the stock market, which is creating a volatile environment, but it could lead to much bigger gains in the next few weeks.

The tech side of the market has cooled in recent weeks, and we may see that negatively impact the market over the coming weeks, although there are a few strong stocks on that side. This has created a more even market, where there is more possibility for healthy trading across the entire market, without most of the trades being centered on one niche.

Market Movement to Watch

One of the big events for the stock market this week is the meeting of the Federal Reserve. Although the Fed is not going to cut interest rates this week, they may give some indications of when that will happen.

The broadening of the stock market appears to be a natural reaction to many weeks of tech stock focus and some anticipation for what the Federal Reserve will do in regards to interest rates. The impact of a decision there could have broad ripples throughout the stock market, and we anticipate ess of a focus on the major stocks and more of a wider focus across the market that helps to lift up some of the overlooked stocks in the coming weeks.

That will mean less investment in the top performing stocks for a while, so investors should be prepared for some slowdown there.
